as well.
Patterning and prints, avant-garde from the art and design world, still leaning
on the safe residue of the fifties but early glimmers of the new contemporary
70s to come.
Children and teens had really just miniature versions of the adult world, and
teenagerhood was a new construct. Classic looks never really depart, just get
reinvented and restyled.
Mum had a certain style about her, and could make her own clothes from scratch. She looked best
in strong colours, and burnt orange, bright red, and mustard were some favourites. Hard to tell where this is taken but it could be Bondi grandparent's place.
A children's party with lots of very formal looking children's dress. My brother and I.
My brother at Bondi, desert boots and a bow tie.
Mum in an eentsy weency polka dot bikini.
A very staged shot, no doubt taken by Dad, was it our kitchen at Pymble?
This probably the start of the 70s. One of Mum's very modern bright red ensembles.
Red would be her signature until the day she died.
Mum in a one piece with a rare perm.
Those balloons coordinate perfectly with my natty hat.
Excuse the nudity, but here we are beachside, Mum in classic 50s/60s dress,
handmade copper earrings, fab sunshades, and me in a dated baby bonnet in my birthday suit.
Sweet smile, another bad bowl cut! Now is it just me, or does that fabric look
remarkably like furnishing fabric, either curtains or lounge?
Me and animals always, this dress is quite an acceptable little shift. The predictable headband.
My brother's christening, is it the heirloom christening robe? Must check. If so it has gowned 12 children or more across 2 generations. With that fur hat and my red hood we could be in Russia.
At home in the backyard at Pymble. This paisley dress gets the thumbs up.
Cute cat accessory borrowed from the neighbours.
The Penrith cousins, one more girl to come. 3 of us in mid-century tops.
At least boy fashion is safe most of the time. Me however, could have done with some
little black boots, not white socks and sneakers aaargghh!
Told to pose obviously, paisley dress again, and some hair styling by Mum.
The bowl cut has grown out at last.
Pinafores and overalls, often.
I actually like this pic and outfit!
The romance of a European forest child.
Pick the gargoyle?
