Monet's Garden

One can dream can't one? Travelling to France and seeing Monet's garden out of
Paris at Giverny.

Maybe one day that could happen.

I have some lovely books on it, with pretty good photo reference. I did some artworks
based on these. I was lucky enough to sell one of these artworks.

Pastels give a similar effect to The Impressionist style of painters.

Colourful Textiles

I have come to love textiles. Appreciate the designs, colours, patterns and unique cultural
specialities of them. I think it started with cushions and throws, and grew.

Have now inherited a lot. Women love fabric and hoard it, me too, but I also like to see it
as decor.

Ethnic woven from Alpaca wool. Earthy colours.
 Various rugs, with exotic patterns.
 Quilts, old and new.
This is a real old one, the concept of using what was scrap fabric or pieces of clothing.
Some Ikat weaving, my new favourite pattern.

More Rosie

Well here are the promised pics. Sorry for the delay, I am a dinosaur and a technophobe,
and can't do anything computer for myself, and have to ask my children!

How embarrassing. However, I know a lot more than I used to.

It's a bit like - present an idea and see how many ways it can be translated. Different company
departments see it in different outcomes.

I think originally I had to get across the idea, after seeing the artist's first rough designs,
that it was formal auto art, symmetrical and stylised. Whereas I wanted a free-form image,
with the car bonnet as a big canvas.

So I hunted down a more simplified Grevillea flower, that could be done more easily. I realised
I had asked for a very complex thing. Grevillea Graphics is my company name. I am a travelling
art tutor, I also am a general artist, printmaker, and writer. So the car is like my work vehicle.

First efforts, developing artwork. Drove her out to a warehouse studio out all the way to Penrith,
going with my son Ben as Nav. Coming a lonnngg way home on the train.

Now we're talking - more spray, more movement,

The final result, more splatter, more! Interesting additional colours coming in.
It looks a lot more in place on the car.

I like the job, especially the cool splattering effects, the colours. I just think that I'm not quite
as hip as I thought I was. It's a bit rebellious 'in your face', whereas now I think I like the more
stylish, sedate look. More me.

My husband said it will be a talking point around our area.

I need finer, more delicate tendrils, stamens? coming out, not a slap in the face with a phallic
octopus! It's my friend T's fault, he said 'that' word!

I am learning to love it. The rust will be kept at bay, it has a nice overall cover, not the sunburnt,
peeling nose that Rosie had before. Teenage boys like it.

The opinion is divided. So it was a very interesting exercise.

J-L did a fine job in a few days, and delivered it back as promised. His quote was fair for the
work. I had got to know him, and purchased his work before for my son, stencil spray portraits.

My daughters two boyfriends, are offering to loan me airbrushing equipment, so that one day
when I have some 'mythical' spare time, I can re-aquaint myself with the method and have a go
myself.

Maybe I can practice on some canvases first. Who knows, if I was any good, I too could spray-art
busty goddesses and tigers and fantasy dragons onto cars, trucks and bike tanks.

Career move hmm....

Some Writing

Rosie and I have a bit of history. She had become sadly, quite shabby. Hail damage previously, or just being out of a garage haven't helped. I planned a new image for her, a spruce up to stop the rust getting in.

I put forward a design, a Spray Artist interpreted it. She is a bit of a talking point now with street cred. Most of the design I like, however, I am not a teenage male.

I am maybe going to have a go myself. Something a little more subtle and stylish is what I had in mind. So I need to re-familiarise myself with airbrushing, there is the opportunity to borrow the equipment. 37 yrs ago was the last time, as a Graphic Design school student.

Here is part of her story. Pictures to come.

‘Rosie’ With The Sunburnt Nose

You shouldn’t name cars.  Nor for that matter, farmstock that become pets e.g. pigs, chooks, etc.

The writing’s on the wall, cars get old.

I get called ‘Packhorse’ at our house, but my cars are true Workhorses. We live in a wonderful, naturally diverse valley, an old block sold to us with no off-street  parking, many moons ago.

So my cars sit up the top, waiting faithfully to perform their many errands. I haul goods up and down the mountainside, hence my monicker ‘Packhorse’ or ‘Pack’ . Baby twins, one under each arm like wiggley sacks of potatoes, shopping, trash, Council Cleanup, and gardening supplies.

I’ve had cars with nicknames  before – Old Grey elephant (Ford sedan), Big Red Chilli Pepper (Mitsubishi stationwagon), and now Rose-Anna (cue several bars of Rosanna by Toto).

Some cars are just cars, but Rosie is mine, she was chosen for me, style, colour, roof racks and towbar for bike racks.

She was four years young when handed over, ex lease as my hubbies former work vehicle. Professional blokes usually get sleek, luxury models with sunroofs, leather seats, bun warmers and the like.

I just need a car, with a big cargo. One that just go, go, goes.

No garage for her, she endures the elements, has been hail damaged, egged on Halloween, bird spotted.

Luckily, unlike one of her predecessors, not broken into, hotwired and used in an attempted armed robbery, baby car seat and all. Dirty criminals, with guns, in my car!

We share a history, Rosie and me. Thrashed by all the Mum Taxiing, and 240 hours of teaching two kids to drive, she still looks good, side on. Unfortunately, the lacquer on her maroon bonnet has all but peeled away, leaving her looking forlorn.

Costly. Too much for replacement new, wrecker part, or respray. I’ve even contemplated a custom graffiti job? Hmm.

Like a line from Dr Seuss, it was the places we’d see, oh, the adventures we’d go. School friends, parks, drop offs to camps, dirt roads, up the coast to visit Nanna.
Now I’ve been offered the next sleek new model, ex work car, with bun warmers, leather seats and sun roof.

I don’t want it. I just want Rosie and I to drive off into the Sunset, for years and years.
So raise a bottle of GTX  oil to all the old girls, may they run forever.

Doll Collection

Difficult decisions. What to keep, what to let go, what is valuable, what is not.
I don't mind a few, but too many is too much.

I do however have a soft spot for the Shirley Temple dolls, she was a big part of my childhood.

We have decided to keep this sweet sailor boy mannequin. Also the interesting leadlight lamp.

This cabinet is nice, and practical, there is my Grandmother's doll, we have her sister's already.

I made Badger from Wind In The Willows. All crocheted without a pattern, a one off. He is home with me now. A very small sampling of the dolls, teddies and other collectibles I will have to decide upon.

Girls and Boys

Had spent years B.C.(before children) drawing the life models. Then when the planning drawers got full of these, wondered what do I do with these artworks now?

Some were framed for art shows, both group and my Solo. Then I grouped some, using my originals as reference and put them into compositions with Gouache paint etc.

 Gouache and ink, 'Frangipanni Pop'
 'Curves and Waves' a gouache
 Gouache again
 Coloured pencil on brown paper
Pastel pencil on coloured paper, same model for these two

 Papier Mache 3 Graces sculpture

 Pastel, and then ink sketch

Some words

I'm going to try to put some poems here, and other wording that I sometimes use as
parts of artworks both 2D and 3D

For example writing a quote and combining it with an oil pastel of mine.

Writing a poem 'Lilly Pilly Jam' and combining it with a print I did.

Another print of mine about the Heritage building that is the art centre I do work in, with slogans such as -
Unravelling History's mysteries, The last Willow, The key to creativity, Enter the magic portal etc.

D words on a contemporary take on Feminism today. In rough form so far.

HOPE - help our polluted environment. On a papier mache hatbox built out of recyclables and found objects. Below - experience dreams, magic, memories and meaning. Collaged tag on hatbox.
